Representatives of nongovernmental organizations dealing with the disabled urged for a better support of the work of social organizations and a shared setting of common goals. The specialists had a meeting in Sepsiszentgyörgy (Sfântu-Gheorghe), where they agreed to collaborate more in the future in order to improve the situation of people living with disabilities.

Several professionals from Kolozs (Cluj) and Kovászna (Covasna) county attended the event entitled The future of Transylvania, a future for all on Saturday, the 26^th of November^.   The event was organised by Péter Makkai, director of the Diakónia Christian Foundation and RMDSZ MEP Csaba Sógor. Csaba Sógor presented the EU level work on the implementation of the United Nations’ Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

„The civil society needs to make its voice heard and it needs to complement the policy makers’ work. There is a need to cooperate on both sides” – pointed out Csaba Sógor, adding: The way we relate to people living with disabilities is a strong measure of a society. „We, RMDSZ representatives want to build a Transylvania where young and old, families and people living with disabilities are respected” – said the MEP.  Csaba Sógor presented the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities saying that Member States have to ensure that people living with disabilities can practice their rights just like any other citizen. This means that they have a right to run for office and take part in public life. He added that social affairs are a member state competence in the EU, but the latter still has supportive power in this field, including through the sharing and promotion of good practices, in the take-up of which civil society also has an important role.
