On March 11th, the first day of this month’s EP plenary session in Strasbourg DAHR MEP Csaba Sógor spoke about the shortcomings of Romania’s minority policy, and explained to his fellow MEPs that there are vast differences between what is in the laws and the everyday reality.
The European Parliament and the European Commission organized a public hearing on February 20th in Brussels, on the subject of maximizing the use of the benefits of European citizenship. This was the first of the series of events organized within the European Year of Citizens (2013). The aim of the European Year is to eliminate the European citizenship-related practical barriers citizens encounter in their everyday lives – especially in the fields of freedom of movement and exercising political rights – through the events organized throughout the year.
MEPs debated the Annual Report on Human Rights in the World and the European Union's policy in the Matter during the European Parliament’s plenary session from the 17th of April. Special focus was put on the impact human rights have on the EU’s strategic policy in the field.

MEPs discussed the situation of the Roma in the member states of the European Union during the plenary session of the European Parliament on the 16th of November. Representative of the Polish Presidency at the Council and secretary of state in charge of equality of chances Elżbieta Radziszewska and Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, Androulla Vassiliou attended the meeting to answer MEP’s questions.
By adoption of the "six pack" of legislative proposals on economic governance, the European Parliament aims to reform the Stability and Growth Pact and to widen surveillance of macro-economic balances.
