It can only benefit a country if it addresses minority issues in a satisfactory manner and guarantees comprehensive minority protection laws – was the conclusion of the panel discussion of MEPs Csaba Sógor and Pál Csáky on the 21st of November at the 2nd Visegrad International Youth Conference in Cluj-Napoca.
Representatives of the civil and professional sector urged for the term wood pastures to be recognised and used in European directives. Experts say wood pastures are a way of using land that has been around for centuries and that they should be included in the rural development programme of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) for their ecological, cultural and historical values.
Iuliu Winkler, MEP, has been elected, this Wednesday, through a unanimous vote, as First Vice President of SME Europe - the lobby organization for SMEs of the European People's Party (EPP) - in its General Assembly which was organized on the sidelines of the EPP Congress in Madrid.
A closer cooperation between regions can lead to a significant increase in the degree of absorption of European funds, for the 2014-2020 Multiannual Financial Framework, stated MEP Iuliu Winkler (UDMR, EPP), Wednesday, at the “Twinned regions open for support of SMEs and urban-rural development through EU funded projects” debate, which took place at this year´s “Open Days” event at the Committee of the Regions.
In an unprecedented way, the Council of the European Union is adopting decisions with a majority of the votes of Member States, without taking each other’s positions into account, which sends the message to the Eastern European states that their opinion does not matter – pointed out Csaba Sógor during the European Parliament’s plenary session, where the MEPs urged for a greater commitment from the EU regarding the promotion of security and stability in countries like Libya and Syria, the largest sources of immigration at the moment.
MEP Iuliu Winkler (UDMR, EPP), Vice-Chair of the European Parliament´s (EP) International Trade Committee (INTA), considers that the establishment of a new investment arbitration system between the EU and the US, as part of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), creates an excellent opportunity for a revision of the various Bilateral Investment Treaties (BITs) between the EU Member States (MS).
We can see similar errors in how the refugee crisis and autochthonous minority protection issues are handled, when responding to both with the same set of measures, though they are two very different problems – pointed out Csaba Sógor in Brussels. The RMDSZ MEP emphasized: indigenous minorities are not immigrants, also pointing out that among the latter there are both genuine asylum seekers in need of support as well as economic migrants.
Commemorating seventy years since the artist’s death, an exhibition celebrating the life and work of composer Béla Bartók was opened in Brussels. The exhibition showcasing the work of the renowned Hungarian artist was organised by RMDSZ MEP Csaba Sógor and sponsored by the European People's Party. The opening ceremony took place at the European Parliament, on the 15th of September.
